SHAKTI - GANESHA

Shakti-Ganesha, originalmente cargada por murky.

Orissa, probably from Konarak
13th Century AD

This rare, five headed figure of Ganesha, son of Parvati, sits with his consort on his knee. She is the personification of the god's energy. below the foot of Ganesha is his vahana or vehicle - a rat. The legs of the throne are composed of a combined elephant and rampant lion motif; this is supported by a crouching figure.

(That is what the sign said - but I had problems spotting 5 heads!)
